FAQs
Is Skin Salvation safe for babies?
Yes, Skin Salvation can be used on babies over six weeks!
Health professionals recommend not to use any skincare at all on newborn babies, but once their skin is a little more resilient, then it’s fine to use gentle natural balms or oils to help keep their skin moisturised.
Can I use Skin Salvation on my face or eyelids?
Yes, you can use the balm anywhere on your face or body, applying carefully around dry or itchy eyes, on lips, noses or behind the ears.
We always recommend a patch test of any new skincare before first use. For more details check out our patch test page
How often should I apply Skin Salvation?
You can use Skin Salvation as often and as generously as your skin needs!
If it’s feeling particularly dry, you might need to re-apply hourly during the day until you start feeling more comfortable. You can also apply the balm last thing at night, under gloves, socks or wraps.
If you’re using the balm on dry hands, make sure to re-apply after washing, patting your hands mostly dry and then using Skin Salvation to lock in moisture.
Please be aware that Skin Salvation doesn’t contain SPF, so don’t apply to exposed areas such as the face or arms without using an effective sunscreen over the top.
What if my skin reacts when I apply Skin Salvation?
If your skin gets more itchy, inflamed or uncomfortable in the area where you’ve applied Skin Salvation, stop using the product.
It can be hard to tell if a reaction is from a new product or something else such as pollen or detergent, so we always recommend a patch test of any new skincare before first use - for more details check out our patch test page. However, even if you’ve tested a product on one area of your body, skin on another area can be reactive even to natural ingredients.
It’s also worth knowing that sensitive skin can be irritated by a product one day and be fine with it in a different phase of the cycle of inflammation; or can be reactive on the face and not on the hands. But if you’re concerned that a particular ingredient might have caused a strong reaction, we’d recommend getting support from your doctor.
We know not every product is going to work for everyone’s unique and varied skin, so we offer a money-back guarantee on first purchases from our website. If you bought from our online shop and you’re sure that Skin Salvation is not for you, please get in touch with customersupport@balmonds.com for a refund.
How soon will I see results from Skin Salvation?
Some people find they see results very soon after applying Skin Salvation; the skin is usually noticeably softer and more moisturised within a few hours or when left on overnight. This can be enough to calm a flare-up considerably.
But everyone is different: other people find it takes longer to see results, as their skin needs to work through a four to six week cycle of repair and regeneration, with Skin Salvation providing barrier support during that period. Used over time the balm will lock in moisture and reduce the risk of further irritation and damage to the skin caused by itching and dehydration. Used longer-term, it can also offer benefits associated with skin being more nourished and resilient.
But an emollient, however effective, can’t totally prevent skin from being affected by triggers such as detergents, dust, pollen, water, stress, etc. if those triggers are still present. We’d always recommend a variety of strategies to help manage your eczema-prone skin alongside using effective, non-irritating skincare. These could include what clothes you wear, how you manage stress levels, what laundry detergent or shampoo you use on your body.

Should I do a patch test before using Skin Salvation for the first time?
Yes, definitely!
Even if you don’t have allergy-prone or sensitive skin, eczema, psoriasis or rosacea, it’s important to do a test first. If your skin is at all sensitive then a patch test is vital.

Is Skin Salvation safe to use in pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
Yes, Skin Salvation can be used in pregnancy or while breastfeeding!
As with any skincare product that you're using for the first time (especially in pregnancy when skin can become more sensitive than usual), we advise a patch test in the crook of the elbow or behind your ear for 24 hrs before using more widely, just to check that you're not sensitive to the few gentle, natural ingredients we use. My child has eczema: how do I use Skin Salvation?
You can apply Skin Salvation as often and as generously as your little one needs!
If their skin is looking particularly dry, you might need to re-apply hourly during the day until they start feeling more comfortable. You can also apply the balm last thing at night, and/or under gloves, socks or wet wraps.
Skin Salvation can be used anywhere on the face or body, including the nappy area; just be sure to apply gently and carefully, and avoid using on any areas of infected skin. (If you suspect that your child has a skin infection, then consult a healthcare professional.)
Please be aware that Skin Salvation doesn’t contain SPF, so don’t apply to exposed areas such as the face or arms without using an effective sunscreen over the top.

What does Skin Salvation smell of?
Skin Salvation doesn’t contain any added fragrance, either synthetic or natural, so it simply smells gently of its ingredients. You may notice a slight honeyed scent from the beeswax, and grassier scent from the hemp seed and olive oils.
What is Skin Salvation’s consistency?
At room temperature, Skin Salvation is a soft, rich, buttery consistency. Because it’s a totally natural product made from beeswax, in colder temperatures it can sometimes get a little hard and need to be warmed up in the fingers. In hotter temperatures it can feel softer and more oily; we’d suggest keeping your tin or jar in the fridge if you prefer a firmer consistency.
Is Skin Salvation vegan?
No, Skin Salvation because it uses local beeswax in the formulation, the balm isn’t vegan. However, it doesn’t contain any other ingredient derived from animals such as dairy, shellfish or lanolin.
