Eczema friendly skincare routine

Creating an Eczema-Friendly Skincare Routine

Creating an Eczema-Friendly Skincare Routine

If your skin is prone to eczema, you’ll know how difficult it can be to get a skincare routine just right, especially when your skin is flaring and super-sensitive to anything you put on it.

With so many different eczema skincare products on offer, so many tips and tricks to remember, and so many ingredients to avoid, it can end up feeling impossible to look after reactive skin.

The answer lies in keeping it simple!

Put aside your complicated multi-step routines and dozens of different products for every inch of the body, and go back to basics with Balmonds powerful multi-purpose solutions.

Discover a flexible routine that works for you

Balmonds has brought together a range of natural products to create a simple but effective skincare regime without the irritants: four multi-purpose products - a wash, an oil, a balm and a cream - all of which have been dermatologically tested as officially suitable for eczema-prone skin. Used in combination, they’ll keep your sensitive skin happy, healthy, clean and hydrated whether you’re flaring or not.

Best of all, you can use them in whichever way works best for you - after all, you’re the expert on your own skin!

THE WASH

Whether in the bath or shower, freshen up with our ultra-natural,  SLS-free multi-purpose wash. Full of herbal extracts but without the harsh detergents that can strip the skin of its natural oils, Balmonds Body, Hand & Hair Wash is formulated with gentle plant-based cleansers and uses an entirely natural preservation system. The vegan formula works for body, hands & hair, and is made with 100% biodegradable raw materials.

How is it good for eczema?

Most washes and shampoos are laden with fragrances, foamers, sulphates or soap, prime culprits for causing damage to the skin barrier by stripping its vital natural oils and triggering irritation. Balmonds wash is free from these ingredients, so you can use it from head to toe without worrying you’ll end up itchy all over!

TOP TIP: This hair and body wash is especially good for little ones with eczema who have to be kept clean but need to avoid the usual bath time products which make them itchy and scratchy.

THE OIL

After showering or shaving, use our wonderfully rich body oil to lock vital moisture into dry skin, smoothing, softening and hydrating sensitive skin. The blend of natural oils contains organic hemp seed, olive, lavender, chamomile and calendula - all plants renowned in herbal medicine for their skin-kind properties. You can use Balmonds Hydrating Body Oil in your bath or shower, as a pre-shave oil, or simply smooth it on all over for a quick hydration hit; it also makes a gorgeously-scented massage oil to help you wind down at the end of a long hard day.

How is it good for eczema?

Emollient oils are an excellent choice for quick and easy all-over coverage - very useful after bathing as the skin starts to lose moisture as soon as you’re out of the water. This blend of oils is particularly rich in nutrients which eczema-prone skin often lacks, so think of it as an intensive treat for thirsty skin!

TOP TIP: Use the ‘soak and seal’ technique for locking in moisture after a bath or shower: pat your skin mostly dry, then apply oil to legs, arms and body within three minutes of getting out. Always be careful using oils as they can make floors & surfaces slippery.

THE BALM

The original 100% multi-purpose natural emollient, Balmonds Skin Salvation is a fantastically effective balm for the treatment of eczema symptoms! Use it whenever and wherever works for you: apply if and when you find your eyes flaring, your lips chapped, or your hands reacting to harsh detergents. It can smooth and soften rough, dry skin, and moisturise inflamed or itchy patches of eczema. It works as a cleansing balm, a primer, a protective barrier cream, a diaper balm, or to help protect cracked skin - and is so rich in nutrients that long-term use is almost like having a topical supplement for your skin!

How is it good for eczema?

Emollients are the standard frontline treatment for eczema because regular application of a moisturiser helps stop an impaired skin barrier drying out and getting itchy. Balms like Skin Salvation are the most intensive emollients for eczema; they help support the natural function of the skin barrier, pack a much greater hydrating punch than oils, lotions or gels, and are far less likely to sting than water-based creams.

These rich, oily balms work by providing a protective, water-proof barrier to keep moisture in and irritants out. While most emollient ointments contain petrochemicals, Skin Salvation is made with naturally antimicrobial beeswax instead of paraffin, which not only makes it more eco-friendly, but also more breathable and less flammable than conventional emollients.

TOP TIP: Use Balmonds Skin Salvation in the most intensive stage of a flare, when skin is cracked, raw, itchy or broken, or when it needs some particularly intensive TLC. Smear the salve on as thickly as necessary and keep reapplying through the day.

THE CREAM
Made with the same herbs and oils as Skin Salvation, but with easily-absorbed shea butter in place of super-rich beeswax, Balmonds Daily Moisturiser is a rich, nourishing cream for daily use. Unlike many creams it doesn’t contain essential oils or perfume, so you can safely use it on your face, as well as hands, body and feet!

How is it good for eczema?

Like Skin Salvation, Balmonds Daily Moisturiser contains super nutritious hemp, olive & safflower, as well as naturally anti-inflammatory chamomile, chickweed, nettle and calendula. Instead of beeswax, it’s formulated with incredibly nourishing shea butter. This not only makes it vegan-friendly, but easier to apply and sink into the skin. Shea butter helps support the healthy functioning of the skin barrier, as it mimics the natural sebum necessary for a resilient epidermis.

TOP TIP: Use Balmonds Daily Moisturiser every day on your face and body to keep your skin well hydrated between flares; it can soften and smooth itchy skin, helping to prevent it drying out or getting damaged by scratching.
